A child’s first orthodontic assessment is often recommended from around age 7, especially if there are concerns about crowding, bite problems or jaw development.. At this stage, the adult teeth and jaws are still developing, which allows an orthodontist to identify potential crowding, bite problems or growth-related concerns early.
Early assessment does not always mean early treatment. In many cases, Dr Qureshi may recommend monitoring your child's development and starting treatment at the most appropriate time. In other cases, early intervention may help reduce the risk of some issues becoming more complex.
Signs your child may benefit from an orthodontic assessment include:
If you are unsure whether your child needs orthodontic treatment, a consultation with Dr Qureshi can provide a clear professional opinion and recommended next steps.

At Didcot Dental Studio, we offer private fixed braces for children. Fixed braces are a well-established option for many children’s orthodontic cases, including crowding, bite problems and developing bite concerns during the growth years.
A full orthodontic consultation with Dr Saba Qureshi, including a clinical examination and any necessary X-rays.
A personalised treatment plan with clear timescales and fees.
Private fixed metal or ceramic braces for the upper and lower teeth.
Regular adjustment appointments to monitor progress.
Retainers at the end of treatment to help maintain the result.
Orthodontic treatment is planned individually. Some children may need monitoring before treatment begins, while others may benefit from fixed braces or another orthodontic option.
Treatment requires good oral hygiene, regular appointments and retainer wear afterwards. Dr Qureshi will explain the benefits, limitations and alternatives during your child's consultation.
Children's fixed braces at Didcot Dental Studio start from £1,500.
The final cost depends on your child's orthodontic needs and the complexity of treatment. You will receive a clear breakdown of fees before deciding whether to proceed. Flexible payment options may be available to help spread the cost.

Dr Qureshi will assess your child's teeth, jaw and bite. She may take photographs and request X-rays where needed. You will receive a clear explanation of whether treatment is recommended and when it should begin.

We will carefully bond the braces to your child's teeth. This appointment is usually straightforward, and Dr Qureshi will explain how to look after the braces at home. We will check the braces feel secure and your child is comfortable.

Your child will attend regular follow-up appointments so the braces can be adjusted and to monitor treatment progress. These visits are usually short and are an important part of keeping treatment on track.

Once the teeth have moved into the planned position, the braces will be removed and provide you with retainers. Retainers are essential because they help prevent your child’s teeth from moving to their previous positions.
Good oral hygiene is especially important during orthodontic treatment. Children with fixed braces need to brush carefully around the brackets and wires, avoid very hard or sticky foods, and attend regular dental check-ups alongside their orthodontic appointments. Dr Qureshi will explain how to care for the braces and what to do if a bracket becomes loose or a wire causes discomfort.

Many children benefit from an orthodontic assessment between the ages of 7 and 10. This does not always mean treatment will start straight away, but it allows an orthodontist to check how the teeth and jaws are developing.
Treatment length depends on the complexity of the case. Many fixed brace treatments take around 12 to 24 months, but Dr Qureshi will give you a personalised estimate after assessing your child.
Having braces fitted is usually not painful. Your child may feel pressure or mild discomfort for a few days after fitting or adjustment appointments. This normally settles quickly.
Yes. Children can usually continue playing sports with braces. For contact sports, a suitable orthodontic mouthguard may be recommended.
